Lest we forget that eventful day in South Africa’s history – 9th August 1956, when some 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in the City of Pretoria to protest against certain proposed amendments to the pass laws or Urban Areas Act of 1950.

Nearly 70 years on from that eventual day, its time to take stock of the degree to which we’ve been able to extend equal rights, privileges and opportunities, inclusivity and justice to all the women in this country, and note what work still needs to be done to achieve and cement that goal.
