Onwards and Upwards to working virtually

Oct 30, 2025

In line with the definition of our name, Litha-Lethu, which translates to ‘our light and vision of something better’, facilitating change, growth and upliftment, our core Johannesburg-based team is now working virtually, as the majority of our projects, psychometric/competency assessments and change interventions, are conducted online.

Anyone reading this may think that moving from an office-based environment to remote or virtual locations is nothing new since the advent of the pandemic. But, in the change management industry, the ability to demonstrate how such change can be achieved in practice has become a valuable example to our clients.

Any assessments that do stipulate or require in-person settings are accommodated in a beautiful, tranquil and well-equipped office space in Melrose. This enables improved deliberation and focus on the tasks at hand in a stress-free environment.

Working virtually has allowed the team increased concentration, flexibility and autonomy, and the opportunity to explore new skills, technology and more efficient ways of working. This is in addition to reduced commuting that saves hours each week, cuts down fuel costs, and prevents the stress of navigating heavy and disruptive traffic volumes.

However, as with any transition and migration to new ways of working, there are trade-offs.

  • Remote work does necessitate an elevated dependence on technology, and might make it harder to separate work from home life and “switch off,” leading to overwork or burnout.
  • Daily scheduling can be tricky, and may make it easier to procrastinate or lose momentum.
  • Staying in one place can lead to cabin fever and a lack of variety in scenery, or direct engagement can impact energy, motivation and a sense of purpose and belonging.

That is why, aside from regular online meetings, we have made it a rule to get together in person at least three days a month. This allows us not only to explore new opportunities to discuss and plan new additions to our service offering, but to encounter uplifting, thought-provoking and critical-thinking experiences.

We encourage teams that have switched to a different working model to find alternative ways to stay bonded when physical presence no longer applies within the organisation.

We have found that planned events, novel team experiences or get-togethers are the solution and have been to the JCAF, Latitudes Art Fair, the Origins Centre at Wits, and most recently, a morning visit to the Mandela Theatre to watch the Johannesburg Ballet’s Spring Season of Dance “First Light”, featuring three diverse programmes that blended classical revival with contemporary pieces.

Our team’s energy and motivation towards our light and vision of something better remains committed and steadfast!
